Welcome to Buenos Aires
Argentina is world renown for its Beef, its cowboy – the Gaucho, its expansive cattle ranches in the Pampas, the impressive Iguazu Waterfalls, breathtaking mountain areas such as Bariloche, and for its capital city of Buenos Aires, birthplace of the TANGO.
This complex, energetic, and seductive port city, which stretches south-to-north along the Rio de la Plata, has been the gateway to Argentina for centuries. “Porteños”, as the multinational people of Buenos Aires are known, possess an elaborate and rich cultural identity. They value their European heritage highly – Italian, German, French and Spanish, and the lifestyle and architecture are markedly more European than any other in South America.
multinational people of Buenos Aires are known, possess an elaborate and rich cultural identity. They value their European heritage highly – Italian, German, French and Spanish, and the lifestyle and architecture are markedly more European than any other in South America.
The Italian influence is evident everywhere, from the lunfardo, the “street talk” of the porteños, to the profusion of Cafes, Pizza parlors and Gelato Ice-Cream shops - where everything is made in-house, old-world style. Even the Tango music and dance bear this influence: “…Tango is a communion of Spanish and native cultures with the one brought by the European immigrant, with strong Italian influence…” - a dance that combines elegance and passion, and a music that has inspired great poets and artists.
